LOLA’S NYC: Where Heritage Meets Deliciousness

Growing up, whether we’re close to our relatives or only know them through old photos, our family’s stories shape who we are. Take Chef Suzanne Cupps, for example. Her grandma’s story isn’t just about recipes; it’s about bravery during WWII in the Philippines, hiding and escaping with her kids.

This family history, combined with the guidance of other Asian American chefs, influences Lola’s menu (Lola meaning “grandma” in Tagalog). Suzanne also draws from her childhood in South Carolina, where she learned the value of hospitality.

Known for her veggie-focused dishes and top-notch ingredients, Suzanne has led kitchens in NYC’s finest spots. But her mentorship and teamwork skills are just as respected as her cooking.

Her journey started at Clemson University, but a twist of fate led her to the kitchen at the Waldorf Astoria. From there, she trained under chefs Anita Lo and Michael Anthony, soaking up knowledge and skills.

In 2017, Suzanne became the first female Executive Chef at Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group. After some twists and turns, she opened Lola’s, her first solo venture, combining 15 years of experience.

And don’t miss out on their desserts, like the indulgent chocolate-chip cookie served with a side of tea-infused oat milk—a sweet ending to a memorable meal at Lola’s.
